A 50-year-old man has been charged in the stabbing death of a 47-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy in the Emma’s Landing subdivision on Geneva’s west side Thursday evening.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Geneva Chief of Police Eric Passarelli announced today that the suspect has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, a class M felony.

Prosecutors allege that on Thursday the suspect stabbed and caused the deaths of Christina L. Chavira, age 47, and D.C., age 13. According to Geneva police, officers responded to a fatal domestic violence 911 call at 8pm Thursday in the 2700 block of Emma’s Way, where they found two victims, both of whom were later pronounced deceased at separate local hospitals.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office was called to the hospital to assist in the investigation of Christina L. Chavira’s death. Chavira’s body was transported to the Kane County Morgue, where an autopsy was conducted on Friday. Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of death is consistent with multiple stab wounds. Toxicology samples were collected during the autopsy and sent to a forensic laboratory for further analysis.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office conducted the autopsy on the second victim, D.C., and found the manner of death to be a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds.

The suspect is currently detained in the Kane County jail. His first court appearance was Sunday, and today the case was transferred to Judge Julia Yetter in courtroom 211. His next court date is set for January 9 at 1:30pm for a detention hearing.
