One man is ded and three others in hospital after a violent three-vehicle crash on Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora Monday afternoon.
The Aurora Police Department is investigating the crash which happened around 1:00pm Monday at the intersection of Farnsworth Avenue and Mountain Street.
Preliminary details indicate that a white 2024 Nissan Kicks traveling eastbound on Mountain Street attempted to cross Farnsworth Avenue when it was struck by at least one of two northbound vehicles – a black 2008 Cadillac Escalade and a maroon 1997 Ford Explorer.
The Explorer rolled over upon impact, and the male driver was pinned inside. Aurora Fire Department personnel extricated him from the vehicle, and he was transported to Ascension Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two additional occupants from the other two vehicles were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Explorer, a 27-year-old male from Aurora, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:16pm. The Kane County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. The Coroner’s Office will release the driver’s name at a later time.
“Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the young man who lost his life, as they navigate this difficult time,” said Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross. “We urge all drivers to use extra caution when traveling on busy roads and stay vigilant at intersections to prevent tragedies like this from happening.”
The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing its investigation into the crash.
