A 43-year-old St. Charles man is in custody after police found him in possession of multiple types of illicit drugs and a massive cache of illegal guns, along with 5000 rounds of ammunition.

According to prosecutors, on Monday the defendant was found with more than 200 grams of a substance containing psilocybin, a hallucinogenic obtained from certain types of mushrooms; more than 2,000 grams but less than 5,000 grams of a substance containing cannabis; less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine; and less than 50 grams of a substance containing Xanax.  Prosecutors assert that the substances found were meant to be delivered to others.

In addition, law enforcement recovered 24 guns from the defendant’s house, including 17 unserialized guns, three of which were unserialized machine guns. Approximately 5,000 rounds of ammunition and various magazines and gun parts were also recovered.

The suspect has been charged with Unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony; Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony; Unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver, a Class 1 felony; Unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 2 felony; Unlawful possession of a machine gun, a Class 2 felony (3 counts); Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony (2 counts); and Unlawful possession of a firearm without a serial number, a Class A misdemeanor.

The suspect is being detained in the Kane County jail while his case is pending. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, September 6, at 9am in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
