An Elgin man is in custody after having been apprehended by police for shooting his firearm in a residential area on the city’s east side.
On Saturday morning at around 10:15am, officers were called to the 900 block of Seminole Drive for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that shots fired had occurred and subsequently took a suspect into custody who had remained on scene after allegedly negligently discharging his firearm.
After the case was reviewed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the 22-year-old suspect, a resident of Elgin, was charged with One count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 felony).
The suspect was released pending a future court date.
Elgin has had 43 gunfire incidents so far during 2024.
