A 65-year-old Elgin man is in custody after having been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a woman at his home Wednesday.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Elgin Chief of Police Ana Z. Lalley announced today that the accused is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a Class M felony.
According to prosecutors, on the morning of July 2 Elgin Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fleetwood Drive after receiving a call from the accused’s daughter about a possible domestic incident at her father’s residence. Upon arriving, officers were met at the door by the accused who brought them to an upstairs bedroom where they discovered the victim lying unresponsive, not breathing, and with no pulse.
The victim was taken immediately to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Evidence at the scene indicated that the accused was involved in the death and he was taken into custody at that time.
The office of Kane County Coroner Rob Russell conducted an autopsy of the victim and located multiple stab wounds in the victim’s chest and defensive wounds in her left and right hands. Coroner Russell declared the preliminary manner of death as Homicide.
The accused appeared in court on Friday where Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo found that there was probable cause to support the charges. The matter was continued to July 12, 2024 for setting of a hearing on the State’s Petition to Deny the Defendant Pretrial Release. The accused will remain in custody until that hearing is held.
