According to witnesses interviewed by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Aurora Police Department, a man intentionally threw himself from the Farnsworth Avenue I-88 overpass onto the pavement below Friday afternoon, causing what authorities have termed “serious injuries.”

At approximately 1:47pm on Friday, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora Police Department and the Illinois State Police were dispatched to the area of the Farnsworth Avenue bridge, which overlooks I-88, for reports that a male had jumped from the bridge down into oncoming I-88 eastbound traffic, near mile marker 119.

It was determined that no vehicles struck the male while he remained in the lanes of traffic.

The Aurora Fire Department assisted with the serious injuries sustained in the incident, and the man was immediately transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Authorities stated that they were unaware of the extent and type of injuries sustained.

Witnesses to the incident provided information to Deputies and investigators on scene that this was an intentional act. No further information will be provided about their statements at this time given the sensitive nature of the investigation.

I-88 has since been re-opened to traffic.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office will not release the name of the male individual involved at this time since next of kin is still being notified of the incident.
