A Maple Park man has been arrested on gun and drug charges after riddling a vehicle with bullets because of a dispute with its owner.
On Monday at approximately 6:24pm, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a business in the 44W000 block of Illinois Route 64 in Virgil Township to investigate a report of a vehicle that had been badly damaged from gunfire.
Officers discovered that the vehicle had been left at the facility for repair work, and that the customer had returned to the facility to retrieve it many times as work was ongoing. Ultimately, the customer had been chased off the property by the suspect and the owner of the facility.
On Monday, the customer arrived on the property and found that his vehicle was heavily damaged with bullet holes from an unknown firearm.
Kane County Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the suspect, who admitted that he was the one that damaged the customers vehicle with an unknown type of firearm as a result of being upset with the customer. While on scene, deputies observed many bullets holes damaging the van, and documentation was noted for obtaining a search warrant.
It was subsequently determined that the suspect is a convicted felon who cannot possess firearms and, accordingly, a search warrant was obtained for the business property and personal residence of the suspect. During the search, no firearms were recovered. However, cocaine, unknown pills, miscellaneous ammunition and a STEN Mark III World War II submachine gun kit were recovered. The pills have been sent to the Illinois State Forensic Crime Lab for further testing to determine their composition.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against the suspect:
- Armed Violence (Class X Felony)
- Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon (Class 2 Felony)
- Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon (Class 2 Felony)
- Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon (Class 2 Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm Without FOID (Class 3 Felony)
- Criminal Damage to Property (Class 4 Felony)
- Reckless Discharge of Firearm (Class 4 Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)
