St. Sophia Church at 525 Church Road in Elgin (Rt. 31 and I-90) will present its 45th annual
summer “Greek Fest” the weekend of June7th, 8th and 9th 2024. The fest will be open on
Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 11pm. Sunday’s hours are 12 noon to 10pm.
Thousands of people attend the festival each year – it is open to the public and admission is
free.
Guests will feast on authentic Greek delicacies such as Gyros, Grecian Chicken, Souvlaki,
Pastitsio, Saganaki (the flaming cheese) and Greek Salad – all while enjoying ice cold
refreshments including Greek Beer, Mediterranean Wine and the legendary Village
Squire Mai Tai.
After a great meal, guests can unwind at the Greek Kafenio where many traditional sweets such as Baklava and loukoumathes can be found. Enjoy a cup of Greek or American coffee and peruse
through dozens of Greek desserts and cookie varietals.
Friday’s entertainment starts with Terran’s Greek Band followed by the American Rock
Band Starlight City playing all the hits. Saturday features authentic Greek Music from the
Ormi Orchestra followed by popular Fleetwood Mac cover band The Chain. Sunday concludes with great Greek Music all day. It goes without saying that Greek Dancing will be featured all weekend.
What better way to cool off than in the “Plaka” Marketplace inside the church hall where
guests can shop for fabulous crafts, beautiful jewelry, books, icons, clothing and other
treasures.
