An apparent double-murder suicide was discovered Thursday afternoon after police made a check on welfare visit to a downtown Elgin residence.

On Thursday at 1:57pm, officers responded to the 100 block of South State Street for a check on welfare visit after a caller reported not seeing their neighbors for an extended period of time. Officers had to force entry into the residence where they located three subjects who appeared to have been deceased for some time.

A firearm was located next to one of the individuals who had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The scene was secured and detectives from the major investigations division responded in conjunction with officers from the evidence response team to assume the investigation.

On Friday, the Kane County Coroner’s Office conducted autopsies on the three deceased subjects. It was determined that all three subjects died from gunshot wounds, one of which was self-inflicted.

While the investigation is on-going, police believe that evidence secured to date indicates a double-murder suicide that was contained to the residence.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until positive identification is made by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
