A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized after being attacked by a 47-year-old Wisconsin man while walking her dog in a McHenry park Sunday afternoon.
Police indicate that her injuries are considered to be serious.
According to the McHenry Police Department, on Sunday afternoon the suspect was walking his unleashed dog in Peterson Park in McHenry when he suddenly attacked and battered a 59-year-old woman who was also walking her dog.
The attack was unprovoked, and investigators believe that there was no connection between the suspect and the victim.
The victim was initially transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, having suffered serious injuries to her face and multiple dog bites. She was subsequently airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
A 37-year-old male that intervened on behalf of the victim was also injured, suffering a broken clavicle and a dog bite.
The suspect has been charged with 1 count of attempted murder; 2 counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm; 1 count of aggravated battery by strangulation,; and 2 counts of aggravated battery in a public place.
The suspect is being held in the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock pending his court appearance.
