It’s the kind of things that dreams are made of.
And perhaps it’s just that – a dream.
But, according to a report from sports website fanrecap.com, former Geneva High School basketball standout Nate Santos might be seeking to make his way back home to Illinois after spending the last three seasons at Pittsburgh and Dayton.
The reporting indicates that after raising his game significantly this past season with the Dayton Flyers, helping that program reach the round of 32 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Santos, a 6’7″ sharp-shooting forward, has entered the transfer portal in order to land at a major program for his final year of eligibility.
As luck would have it, his home-state flagship program, the Fighting Illini, is aggressively reloading from its Elite 8 performance in this year’s tournament, with the combination of graduating seniors and transfer portal casualties opening opportunities for transfers like Santos to walk in and assume a starting position at an elite program.
There has been no word about Santos’ intentions, as his status in the portal indicated “Do Not Contact,” meaning that he likely has a list of potential landing spots already in mind.
Time will tell.
