An officer at the Kane County jail was cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to an attempted suicide by an inmate in January.
On Tuesday, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser finalized her review of an investigation by the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force into the incident, an investigation that was requested by Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain’s office.
The report outlines how the involved Correctional Services Officer (CSO) at the jail, who had no forewarning of the inmate’s suicidal behavior, nevertheless acted promptly to mitigate the potential harm to the defendant, and immediately initiated life-saving measures.
The investigation determined that the CSO adhered to both Kane County and Illinois State policies. It was also determined that no unlawful acts were committed by any members of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office during the incident.
“I would like to thank Sheriff Hain for referring the matter to the Major Crimes Task Force for an independent investigation even though there was no legal requirement for him to do so,” Mosser said in a press release. “I would like to further thank North Aurora Detective Kristin Lohrstorfer for her thorough investigation with the other members of the Major Crimes Task Force. Lastly, I would like to thank the CSO involved as his actions saved the life of the inmate in the jail. It is due to his quick thinking and immediate reaction that there was no death that day.”
