Authorities have now identified the person killed in a fiery crash on I-88 Monday morning.

The deceased is Laura Rudow, 52, of Elburn, who was killed when her vehicle was hit head-on as she drove westward in the eastbound lane of I-88 near milemarker 102 just southwest of Elburn.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to Illinois State Police, both vehicles involved in the crash burst into flames on impact.

The crash remains under investigation. According to reports, heavy fog was present in the area but there has been no determination as yet whether that factored into the crash.

Toxicology reports have not yet been produced.
