One person is dead and another seriously injured in a fiery crash on I-88 Monday morning.
According to multiple media reports, at approximately 5:19am Monday morning, a vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-88 near milemarker 103 just southwest of Elburn when it crashed head-on into another vehicle. According to Illinois State Police, both vehicles burst into flames on impact.
The westbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the eastbound driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
The crash remains under investigation. According to reports, heavy fog was present in the area but there has been no determination as yet whether that factored into the crash.
