The Batavia VFW Post #1197 will host a no-cost event on Friday, February 2, to provide information about resources for veterans and promote veteran-owned businesses. The event will be held at 645 South River Street in Batavia beginning at 10am.

The resource fair and business showcase will be open from 10am until 4pm. At 4:30 p.m., Veterans association leaders from the state and national level will discuss important issues concerning the veteran community. A free lunch will be provided to all who register on Ticket Leap.

The Batavia VFW has partnered with the Batavia United Way, the American Legion, Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, and the DuPage County Veterans Assistance Commission to gather important resources and information and make them easily accessible to the public via the Resource Fair.

According to Doreen Bartow, events coordinator for the Batavia VFW Post #1197, the event would benefit with more business participants.

“We are seeking additional veteran-owned businesses or businesses that offer discounts to Veterans year-round to join our business showcase,” Bartow commented. “There is no cost to setup, however, we do require registration for the showcase.”

Businesses who are interested in participating can contact Doreen Bartow by emailing [email protected] or call Post #1197 at (630) 879-9630. If no one is available, the organization asks that callers please leave a message with a call back number and reason for the call. Again, the public is invited to attend and encouraged to share the information about this event with veterans and their families.

The mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is to advocate for and provide support to fellow veterans and their families. The group works to ensure that veterans receive access to the benefits and medical care they deserve and are entitled to. Additional assistance areas include employment, education, and housing.
