A combination of ice and freezing rain overnight made travel on Fox Valley roads a nightmare, with multiple road closures and vehicular accidents.
As of approximately 6:00am, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office indicated that, as temperatures rise, roads are becoming more passable, but travel is “very slow.”
Overnight, multiple roads were closed due to the icy conditions, with numerous reports of stranded vehicle off the road around the area.
School Closings
Schools from Elgin to Aurora have either announced closings or e-learning today. For a full list of school closings, click here.
Conditions should improve during the day, as temperatures rise above freezing, but a wintry mix of precipitation is expected to last until around 1:00pm. Caution is advised.
