Can a plague of locusts be far behind?
After the snow and then brutal cold of the past couple of weeks, we kind of hoped we’d get something of a reprieve. And by golly, it looks like relief is on the way with highs this week peaking at a balmy 40 degrees.
However, before we reach that temporary promised land, we have to deal with this evening/tomorrow morning, which, according to the National Weather Service, is likely to bring something typically more destructive than snow: ice.
According to the NWS Chicago, another period of a wintry mix will arrive tonight and last through Tuesday morning. Untreated roads will become hazardous and ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch are expected. That kind of ice can be harmful to powerlines and other important infrastructure, not to mention making travelling distinctly treacherous.
But hey, at least this will be short-lived. Temperatures should be well over freezing by Wednesday and this, too, shall pass.
