A Hanover Park man is in custody after a prolonged standoff with police Saturday morning that required the Naperville Police Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators to be mobilized.
On Saturday at approximately 4:26am, multiple Naperville Police Officers responded to the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive when a stolen motor vehicle was discovered parked in a lot. Officers attempted to make contact with the occupant, who fled on foot into a nearby apartment unit.
Officers learned that the fleeing subject was not wanted inside that apartment unit and was refusing the resident’s request to leave. The residents left the apartment without incident, leaving the suspect alone inside, and informed officers that the subject had shown a handgun to several of the residents in that unit.
Members of the Naperville Police Department Special Response Team along with Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene. After several hours the subject voluntarily exited the apartment unit and was placed under arrest without incident.
The 20-year-old suspect has been charged with one count of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, a class 2 felony; Trespass to Residence and Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, both class 4 felonies; and Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer, a class A misdemeanor.
