Naperville police officers put on their hero capes Tuesday afternoon by rushing into a freezing pond to pull two adults and a toddler from their submerged vehicle.
At around 1 pm, Tuesday afternoon, Naperville police were called to a pond near the 95th Street Naperville Public Library for a report of a submerged vehicle with occupants.
Fortunately, three officers were in the vicinity at the time of the call and rushed to the scene to find a white SUV submerged in the middle of the pond.
According to police, the officers jumped into the water and were able to break the vehicle’s windows to pull the 2-year-old child and two adults to safety.
No injuries were reported.
No citations have been issued related to the incident, as the investigation is ongoing. It is speculated, however, that the driver of the vehicle accidently pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal in the vehicle, causing it to unexpectedly jump forward into the pond.
