On Halloween, 2022, 48-year-old Timothy A. Gordon cold-bloodedly shot and killed his estranged wife, 35-year-old Yajaira Gordon, in front of her mother, aunt, and two children.
Yesterday, Gordon, a serial criminal with previous arrests for armed robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, and other weapons-related offenses, pleaded guilty to the brutal murder and will now face a sentence of between 45 years and life in prison. The sentence includes a mandatory enhancement of between 25 years and life in prison because Gordon used a gun to commit the murder.
Judge Clint Hull accepted the plea and set Gordon’s next court appearance for April 29, 2024, at 9am in Courtroom 311 for motions and sentencing.
Timothy Gordon and Yajaira Gordon were married but Yajaira Gordon had recently filed for divorce. The two continued living in the same house in the 1300 block of Oak Ridge Lane in Montgomery, with Timothy Gordon living in the basement and Yajaira Gordon and members of her family living on the second floor.
On October 31, 2022, Timothy became angry after learning that Yajaira was possibly seeking a court order to remove him from the home. Around noon, Timothy returned to the house and went upstairs and into the room where Yajaira was seated at a computer desk. Four others were in the room – the victim’s mother and aunt, along with two young children.
Timothy asked Yajaira why she was doing this to him, saying he had nowhere to live. Yajaira replied “stop coming up here” and Timothy responded by shooting Yajaira at close range in her left temple with a .25-caliber Beretta hand gun, killing her.
Timothy fled and was arrested a few hours later in Hinsdale with the handgun next to him in the vehicle.
Gordon remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $3 million bail.
