An Elgin police officer charged with child pornography earlier this month has resigned from the department, according to the City of Elgin.
The officer was arrested by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office on December 4 and is being charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of reproduction of child pornography.
“The Elgin Police Department immediately launched an internal investigation with the city’s independent investigator following [the accused’s] arrest,” says Chief of Police Ana Lalley. “[He] was notified of his scheduled interrogation and chose to tender his resignation rather than participate in the police department’s internal investigation.”
The police department has notified the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board of the accused’s resignation while under investigation in accordance with state law.
The case is within the jurisdiction of the Attorney General’s Office and DeKalb County and no further information is available from the City of Elgin.
