Sequel To St. Charles Horror Flick “Munger Road” Finally In The Works

Just in time for Halloween, local restauranteur and filmmaker Nick Smith has announced that the long-awaited sequel to his St. Charles-based 2011 movie “Munger Road” is finally in the works.

On the most recent podcast of the St. Charles Business Alliance, Smith proclaimed that “Munger Road, Part 2” is on the way and will again be produced in St. Charles.

“The sequel to Munger Road is going to be a really, really fun movie. We’re looking forward to producing it here in St. Charles.”

The original movie revolves around a longstanding legend about a railraod crossing on Munger Road in Bartlett. According to the legend, a school bus full of children was hit by a train after becoming stuck on the tracks, killing everyone inside. Reportedly, if visitors at Munger Road sprinkle baby powder on their car bumpers and sit on the tracks with their car in neutral, the spirits of the children push the car off the tracks to safety, and their handprints can be seen in the powder.

The movie takes place during the annual St. Charles Scarecrow Festival (now Scarecrow Weekend).

“Munger Road” came with a rather controversial “To be continued…” ending, adding further impetus to the clamor for the sequel.

“It’s always been a 2-part story in my head,” Smith says.

“[Part 2] is something I’ve always wanted to do, but I’ve just been too busy – until now” Smith said.

No information is available yet about when the sequel will be filmed or potential release dates.

Here’s Smith talking to the Justa Coupla Guys podcast earlier this year about the original “Munger Road” from his restaurant, Alexander’s Cafe, in St. Charles.
