Indiana Man Arrested In Naperville For Possessing Loaded Machine Gun

An Indiana man is in custody after allegeedly being caught in possession of a fully-loaded machine gun at a Naperville recreation facility.

The 19-year-old suspect appeared in front of Judge Joshua Dieden at First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun, a Class X Felony. He was denied pre-trial release after a motion to deny was filed by DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin.

According to police, on Saturday evening at approximately 9:51pm Naperville police officers on routine patrol at TopGolf on Odyssey Court observed a gun in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of a black Chevy Cruze. A short time later, the suspect and another individual returned to the vehicle, at which time Naperville police officers immediately activated their emergency lights and boxed it in. Inside the vehicle, police allegedly found a fully-loaded Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine, a laser sight and an auto switch that enables the weapon to fire fully automatic when engaged. The suspect, who does not possess a valid FOID or CCL, was taken into custody at that time.

“Public safety is the top priority of my office and the allegation that [the suspect] unlawfully possessed an extremely dangerous, fully-loaded gun capable of firing as a machine gun, at a family-friendly entertainment facility is outrageous,” Berlin said. “Allegations such as those against [the suspect] will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be fully prosecuted.”

This was the third gun-related incident in the TopGun parking lot in September.

The suspect’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 16, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge Brian Telander.
