The air is growing crisper, the first hint of color is creeping into the leaves overhead and Primrose Farm is primed to make this fall a memorable one.
Part of the St. Charles Park District, the facility features many characteristics of a real working farm, and more than a little country charm.
Primrose Farm is a great way to enjoy the season and staff are excited to once again offer Autumn Hayrides on Friday and Saturday evenings September 29 to October 21. Snuggle under a blanket and enjoy a 30-minute tractor-drawn wagon ride around the beautiful farm. Catch a sunset or watch the stars pop out. To make the event even sweeter, enjoy s’mores over an open fire after your ride. Advance tickets are required for a one-hour visit that includes the wagon ride and s’mores. Choose from individual or group rates.
During the new An Apple Afternoon program, children 5 and older will learn about the popular fruit and its many varieties. In the farm’s orchard, little hands will reach to pick apples right from the tree. The nearby kitchen space will provide attendees with the opportunity to peel apples and see how delicious apple butter and other sweet apple treats are made.
And, there’s always the opportunity to sign up for activities that include interaction with live animals. Feed the Goats and Feed the Chickens are great for young children with their parents. For the Chicken & Egg program, get up close and personal with the Columbian Wyandottes and gather some farm fresh eggs to take home. During Hands-on Milking, participants will discover all that goes into dairying including breeding, raising and milking of dairy animals.
