An Elgin man is in custody after allegedly firing a gun in the direction of Elgin police officers responding to an unrelated call.

During the evening of September 9th, EPD officers were in the area of South Geneva Street and Fulton Street on an unrelated call for service when they heard several gunshots in close proximity to their location. Additional officers and detectives responded to the area to assist and, after an extensive canvas, evidence was recovered that indicated the shots were fired in the direction of officers on the original call for service.

The next day, police arrested a 28-year-old Elgin man in the area near Chapel Street and Prairie Street after a brief struggle.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm at Officer (Class X Felony), Armed Violence, Discharge of a Firearm while Committing a Felony (Class X Felony), Unlawful Use/Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), Four counts of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Class 2 Felony), Criminal Damage to Government Property (Class 4 Felony), Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Injury (Class 4 Felony) and Resisting a Police Officer (Class A Misdemeanor)

The suspect appeared in Kane County bond call yesterday morning, where the Judge set his bond at $800,000 (10% to apply).
