The Federal Bureau of Investigations announced yesterday that they have apprehended a suspect in the robbery of a PNC Bank branch in Elgin.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Elgin man, has been charged in federal court with robbing the branch in the 800 block of Summit Street in Elgin on August 15, 2023. He was arrested on Tuesday.

He remains detained in federal custody pending a detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Young B. Kim at 11:30 a.m., today.

The Elgin Police Department participated in the investigation, which is being led by the FBI.

At approximately 1:45pm on August 15, FBI agents responded to a bank robbery at the PNC branch. (According to federal law, the FBI has jurisdiction in all bank robbery cases.) According to an FBI report, the agents discovered that a lone male suspect had entered the bank and demanded money, implying that he was armed. A note was also displayed.

The suspect was described as a large black male, 5’10-11″ in height, wearing dark pants, a black t-shirt with a yellow construction vest on top, a black surgical mask, sunglasses, no gloves, and a plain black baseball hat also had long dreadlocks.

No indication as to the amount stolen, if any, has been provided. There were no injuries reported.
