An Aurora man faces a minimum of 12 years in prison after being found guilty of criminal sexual assault of a child, it was announced Monday.

Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo, Jr. found 30-year-old David R. Arevalo Estrada guilty of the offenses of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony (2 counts), and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony (2 counts). Arevalo Estrada had waived his right to a jury trial.

“I am grateful to this victim for her courage and perseverance, and for trusting us once she disclosed the sexual assaults,” Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Stacey Wittman said after the verdict. “It was nearly a decade from the time the abuse started until this case was resolved. Although the wait was frustrating at times, the victim’s family remained patient and appreciative, and I thank them for that.”

For a perid of three years between 2013 and 2016, Arevalo Estrada sexually assaulted the victim, whom he knew and who was younger than 13 years old.

Judge LoPiccolo set Arevalo Estrada’s next court appearance for October 18, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 005 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Arevalo Estrada faces a minimum sentence of 12 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In addition to the prison term, Arevalo Estrada must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Arevalo Estrada had been free on $25,000 bond. Judge LoPiccolo revoked bond upon conviction and ordered Arevalo Estrada taken into custody at the Kane County jail.
