Elgin police have announced that two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting on Elgin’s west side in June.
At 1:04 a.m., June 25, Elgin police officers responded to the 200 block of South Aldine Street for a reported shooting. Upon arriving, officers located an adult male with gunshot wounds. The victim, 22-year-old Rayquan Smith of Elgin, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
After an investigation of the incident, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged two Elgin men, 21 and 18, with two counts of First Degree Murder; armed violence (a Class X felony); two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm (a Class 1 felony); and criminal damage to property (a Class 4 felony).
The two accused men appeared in Kane County bond call Sunday morning where the Judge set each of their bonds at $1,500,000 (10% to apply).
