Chicago Man Gets $1 Million Bond For Gun Infraction In Naperville

A Chicago man out on probation for gun charges was arrested by Naperville police and had bond set at $1 million by a DuPage County judge Friday.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres issued a press release saying that bond has been set for a Chicago man accused of illegally possessing a loaded firearm. The man appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Margaret O’Connell set bond at $1 million with 10% to apply. He is charged with one count of Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony) and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Prior Conviction (Class 2 Felony). He is currently on probation out of Cook County on two separate counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On Friday. Naperville police officers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 1663 N. Route 59 for a call of a male shoving a female into car. Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the occupants.

Officers smelled a strong odor of cannabis, at which time one of the officers asked the occupant in the front passenger seat, the accused, to exit the vehicle. It is alleged that when the officer asked Maclin-Dupree to exit the vehicle, the defendant removed a satchel he was wearing and threw it in the back seat.

Officers located suspected cannabis on the accused and a subsequent search of the satchel yielded additional baggies of cannabis and a .22 caliber pistol with three rounds in the magazine and one spent casing in the barrel. The accused was taken into custody at this time.

“It is alleged that Mr. Maclin-Dupree, a convicted felon currently on probation for two unlawful use of a weapon charges, was illegally in possession of a loaded handgun,” Berlin said. “For the second time this week my office has filed weapon possession charges against an individual who is forbidden by law to possess a firearm. The $1 million bond set by Judge O’Connell sends the message that career criminals are going to be held accountable in DuPage County.”

The accused’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 4, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge O’Connell.
