A 32-year-old Aurora man has been charged with Aggravated DUI Causing Death, a Class 2 Felony, in relation to an April traffic accident in which one of the drivers was killed.

On April 6, 2023, at approximately 8:52 p.m., officers with the Aurora Police Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on Eola Road. It is alleged that the accused was traveling southbound on Eola Road in a Ford Escape when he crossed the raised center median, entered the northbound lanes and crashed into a northbound vehicle driven by the victim, Nicole Dickerson. The collision caused the vehicles to crash into another northbound vehicle.

Following the crash, the occupants of all three vehicles were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. On April 10, 2023, Dickerson passed away as a result of her injuries.

Police assert that the accused was traveling at approximately 85 mph at the time of the crash and that his BAC was 0.183, more than twice the legal limit.

On May 18, 2023, Judge Jennifer Martyn issued a $2 million with 10% to apply arrest warrant for the accused, who was taken into custody Monday without incident.

“For the second time within one week, my office has filed charges against a motorist accused of driving after he had been drinking,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said. “The victim in this case, Nicole Dickerson, a loving mother and wife, was loved by many and it is a tragedy that her life has now become a statistic due to the alleged actions of [the accused]. I offer my sincerest condolences to the Nicole’s family and friends as they mourn the senseless death of a loved one. As I said last week, this tragedy too could have been avoided had the accused simply called a cab, a ride sharing service or a friend for a ride instead of thinking he was fine to drive.”

The accused next court appearance is scheduled for June 16, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
