Swedish Days brings thousands of people to Geneva to enjoy food, music and plenty of fun for people of all ages each summer. It also brings significant traffic congestion.

The Geneva Police Department has announced that parking restrictions will be implemented to accommodate this signature event, and two downtown streets will be closed throughout the festivities from Wednesday to Sunday, June 21-25.

Parking signage will be temporarily posted in certain areas throughout the week, and Swedish Days visitors should be mindful of the restrictions when parking downtown. The main festival areas that will be impacted are Third Street (from State to South streets), James Street (from Second to Fifth streets), and Campbell Street (from Second to Fifth streets).

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Tuesday, June 20:

    • James Street from Third to Fourth streets; and
    • Third Street from James to Campbell streets.

The 300 block of James Street will remain closed through the conclusion of the festival. The Third Street block near the Kane County Courthouse will be shut down through Saturday, June 24, and will be open most of the following day except for the Swedish Days Parade.

Prior to the parade stepping off at 1 p.m. June 25, a detour route will be established with police officers directing traffic at various locations along the parade route. The following streets will be shut down during the parade:

    • State Street (Route 38) from Second Street to Logan Avenue on the west side of the Fox River,
    • Third Street from State Street to Route 31, and
    • Anderson Boulevard from State to Union streets.

State Street Detour Route: Westbound motorists should head north on Second Street, west on Stevens Street, north on Edison Street, west on Union Street, and south on Logan Avenue to resume westbound travel on Route 38. The detour route is reversed for eastbound State Street traffic.
