The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has released further details on the head-on collision Tuesday in unincorporated Hampshire.
At approximately 4:49 on Tuesday, Kane County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the scene of an accident on Plank Road, near the Meadowlark intersection in unincorporated Hampshire. There they found the result of what appeared to be a head-on collision between two vehicles.
According to witness statements and information provided to investigators, police believe that a 2017 Ford 4-door vehicle driven by 38-year-old Kimberly Bauer of Hampshire left the eastbound lane of traffic on Plank Road and entered the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on crash with a 2014 Lexus SUV, driven by 18-year-old Danyun Chen of Chicago.
Kane County Deputies observed that Bauer’s vehicle had caught fire with the Bauer still inside. The deputies reacted quickly by pulling the driver to safety before the vehicle became fully engulfed. She was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital, having sustained broken bones (spinal, pelvis, shin,
and wrist) along with severe burns and smoke inhalation. She is in stable condition.
Chen was transported to Sherman Hospital with minor injuries. Families of both individuals were notified of the crash and current investigation.
There is still a pending investigation to see if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and potential charges are still forthcoming.
