While the frequency of shooting incidents has declined somewhat in Elgin this year so far, they continue to plague the city on a regular, if more sporadic, basis.
This weekend, in the space of 12 hours, three separate incidents of gunshots fired were investigated by the Elgin Police Department.
On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of S. Lyle Ave. for a report of a past shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located damage and it appeared that shots fired had occurred. There were no calls of shots fired in that area.
At 11:56 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Villa St. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that shots fired had occurred.
And on Sunday morning at 2:23 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of S. Aldine Ave. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that shots fired had occurred.
The incidents bring the 2023 total to 19, with the warm months just beginning. The record for such incidents was 66, recorded in 2021.
