The stars were out Wednesday in South Elgin as the Boys & Girls Club celebrated the opening of its 5000th facility.
Denzel Washington, longtime national spokesperson for the organization and former member, stopped by to tell his story of how the organzation affected his life and lives across the country.
“We’re investing in our future here,” he said.
The South Elgin facility is the largest such facility ever built by the Boys & Girls club, coming in at 20,000 square feet.
Joining Washington in the celebration was Olympic superstart and club alum Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Kersee was promoting her new book for children “Running for the Gold: Connecting Kids to Dreams.”
The facility is located at 735 Martin Drive in South Elgin.
