After the absolute dud that was produced recently by the National Weather Service, travelers could be forgiven for looking upon this evening’s forecast with a skeptical eye.
However, it is our duty to report what the authorities are anticipating, so here goes.
According to NWS, heavy, wet snow accumulations are expected across northern Illinois this evening, mainly north of I-80 with highest amounts near the IL-WI border. Amounts quickly taper south of the I-80 corridor. Hazardous travel conditions will develop this evening and persist overnight.
The Fox Valley region is expected to be impacted in terms of snowfall this evening, with periods of heavy snowfall (>1 inch per hour) between 7pm and 2pm. Precipitation in the form of rain/snow mix is expected to commence at around 3pm.
If accurate, this storm could make the rush-hour commute very unpleasant, so plan accordingly.
We’ll see.
