The Chicago Police Department officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Andres Vasquez-Lasso, 32.

Vasquez-Lasso was responding to a domestic incident involving a person with a gun. According to police radio traffic, a caller had indicated that a domestic disturbance had occurred and that the suspect was chasing a woman down the street near 53rd Street and Spaulding Avenue in Chicago. Vasquez-Lasso pursued the armed suspect on foot, and was shot multiple times while returning fire, according to Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown.

Vasquez-Lasso was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he later died.

The moments leading up to the shooting are recounted below in a recording of police radio traffic. WARNING: The recording is emotionally intense.
