In what might just be a coincidence, police in Elgin and Naperville were informed of a young-ish man harassing middle school girls walking home from school on subsequent days this week.
On Tuesday at approximately 5 p.m., Naperville Police responded to a report of a suspicious incident that occurred earlier that afternoon.
Two middle school-aged girls reported that they were approached by an adult male as they were walking near School and Ellsworth streets around 4 p.m. The man began to walk with them, asked them a series of personal questions and offered to take one of the girls to a location she liked to hang out. The girls refused to share information with him, at which point he stopped walking with them and walked westbound towards Washington Street.
The man is described as a male white, approximately 5’10” – 6” tall with a thin build and brown hair, wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans.
On Wednesday, January 18th at 5:11 p.m., a female student from Abbott Middle School came to the Elgin police department to report a similar incident.
The student advised that a male hispanic in his 20’s with short hair and some facial hair has been making inappropriate statements to female students walking home from Abbott Middle School between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The suspect was observed following the female students in his vehicle as they were walking in the area of the 300-400 block of Standish St. The vehicle is believed to be a silver or beige Ford Edge.
It remains unclear whether the incidents are related.
