Yesterday, DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick added his name to a growing list of county sheriffs across Illinois pledging not to enforce the newly passed Protect Illinois Act which bans the purchased of certain types of rifles and requires currently owners of such rifles to register with the state.
Here is Mendrick’s statement in full. It follows the form and substance of similar statements issued around the state.
As of this morning, at least 74 county sheriff’s have pledged not to enforce the new law. Included in this total are Kane, DuPage, McHenry and DeKalb counties.
