A 69-year-old Aurora man was killed Tuesday morning when the SUV he was driving collided with a fire hydrant and utility pole.
According the Aurora Police Department, on December 20, 2022, at approximately 11:23 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash at the intersection of West Indian Trail and Almond Drive.
When officers arrived on scene, they found that an SUV had collided with a fire hydrant and utility pole. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be unconscious and not breathing. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver was identified as Vincente Barrera, 69, of the 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway, Aurora, IL.
Both directions of Indian Trail were temporarily closed at the intersection of Almond Drive while APD’s Traffic Unit conducted an investigation into the accident. It is unknown whether the driver sustained a medical emergency prior to the crash.
