Elgin police were performing a routine “health check” on a citizen Saturday morning when they came across a man with outstanding warrants whom they promptly arrested and took into custody. Upon learning where he lived, officers went to his residence and found a dead man.

The identity of the male will not be released at this time and the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Kane County Coroner’s Office pending the results of an autopsy.

On December 18th at approximately 6:59 a.m. officers responded to the area of Summit St. and Hiawatha Dr. for a check on the welfare of a subject. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was taken into custody on unrelated, outstanding warrants. Through further investigation it was determined that the subject lived in the 700 block of Preston Ave. Officers responded to this location and located an adult male subject who was deceased inside the residence.

Detectives from the Major Investigations Division arrived on scene and are actively investigating this incident which at this time appears to be an isolated incident with no danger to the public.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is being asked to contact the Major Investigation Division at 847-289-2600. Additionally, individuals can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at 847-695-4195 or texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
