Side Street Studio Arts (SSSA), located at 15 Ziegler Ct., in the heart of downtown Elgin, will host its 10th annual Jingle Bell Jam concert fundraiser Saturday, December 17th at 8pm.
“Last year, in addition to the event we decided to host a canned food drive to give to our community food bank Food For Greater Elgin,” said Music Coordinator Peter (Dirt) Brankovic. “The event was a large success and we were able to fill up an entire shopping cart for the food bank. This year, we are partnering with Pink Slip Zine to run a coat drive, and are hoping to scale this event up in order to make larger contributions to our community.”
“Pink Slip is excited to partner with Side Street for Jingle Bell Jam because it will allow us to tap into the spirit of giving during the holidays,” said Editor-In-Chief of Pink Slip Zine Skylar Moore. “Because this community has done so much for us, it is important that we give back to those who need it most. We are grateful to be donating winter wearables to PADs of Elgin and Mutual Aid Duage, two groups that reallocate goods to where they are most needed, and who encourage participation in gift economy over capitalism.”
This year’s lineup of artists represents some of the best local shoegaze, punk, and alt music in the suburbs. Performers include What To Do, The Daisy Heaves, The Subterraneans, and Ceruleum. Doors open at 7pm with performances at 8pm. Tickets may be purchased online for $10 or $5 with canned food or coat donation at the door.
SSSA was founded by Elgin residents Tanner Melvin and Rehberg in 2013 as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene. Side Street provides educational and creative resources and an inclusive space, run by artists. Side Street’s mission is to support the artist and artistic journey through collaboration.
