The Geneva Steeple Walk returns to usher in the holidays, greeting patrons with a variety of seasonal music concerts at four local churches.
Presented by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, the Steeple Walk takes place from 2 to 4:30pm Sunday, Dec. 4. Two audience groups will attend 20-minute concerts played simultaneously at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.; and Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St. Following the performances, the groups will switch venues to enjoy the other concert.
Patrons will then walk to the final concerts – and similar rotation format – at both the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St.; and First Church of Christ, Scientist, 111 S. Second St. Steeple Walk guides escort the groups to the next church, all within a short walk, and share information about the architecture of each site.
Artists participating at each church include:
- United Methodist Church: The Lamplight Singers are a quartet that has been performing well-loved Christmas carols and songs for 17 years. The performers dress in full Victorian costumes, appearing as if they stepped out of “A Christmas Tale.”
- Geneva Lutheran Church: The Carillon Ensemble, a group of four members of the Agape Ringers, will inspire audiences with a beautifully orchestrated handbell presentation of holiday favorites. The Chicago-based Agape Ringers have played more than 330 concerts across North America, Puerto Rico and England.
- Unitarian Universalist Society: This year, three talented artists have collaborated to bring Holiday Jazz for Three to the Steeple Walk. Music will be performed by Ruth Cavanaugh, flutist; Jordan Christianson, pianist; and Olivia Flanigan, vocalist.
- First Church of Christ, Scientist: Canto Zenzero, known as the “Singing Gingers,” is a group of three sopranos joined by a world-renowned pianist with training in the fields of classical music, musical theater, and folk song. Their concerts seamlessly cross the boundaries of musical genres to the delight of the audience.
Steeple Walk tickets cost $15 per person if purchased in advance or $20 at the door (if tickets remain available). Tickets can be bought on the City’s website at www.geneva.il.us and Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St. Attendance by children under age 6 is not recommended.
The event concludes Geneva’s popular holiday weekend with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce holding its annual Christmas Walk & House Tour, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3. For more information about the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, visit www.genevarts.org.
