Early in the morning of Aug. 22, 2020, a man allegedly shot and killed 41-year-old Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga of Elgin, while seriously injuring another man, at a traffic light in Elgin.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man from Lake in the Hills, has now been indicted by a Grand jury on charges including 2 counts of First-degree murder, Attempted first-degree murder (Class X felony), Armed violence (Class X felony) and Unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member (Class 2 felony).
The accused was a passenger in a white sedan that was traveling south on Route 31 (North State Street) in Elgin. Trujillo-Uscanga was the front-seat passenger in a light blue Mini Cooper that also was traveling south on Route 31. The second victim was driving the Mini Cooper.
Near the intersection with Kimball Street, the sedan pulled alongside the Mini Cooper and the accused allegedly fired multiple gunshots at it. Trujillo-Uscanga was struck by gunfire in the torso and died a short time later at AMITA Health St. Joseph Hospital. The driver was struck with multiple gunshots.
The victims were on their way home from a Huntley restaurant where they worked as cooks.
Bail was set at $750,000, and the accused’s next appearance is scheduled for 9am Dec. 7, 2022, in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
