The 55-year-old Batavia woman who died after being struck by a car in Geneva Thursday evening has been identified.

In a press release issued by the Kane County Coroner, the woman was identified as Tammy Berke.

Berke died after being struck by a car around 6:48 p.m. Thursday evening in the 700 block of East State Street (Route 38) in Geneva.

Berke was walking southbound near the center turn lane on State Street east of Sandholm Street across from the Dairy Queen. She was struck by a black 2018 Hyundai Kona driven by a 30-year-old Geneva woman, who was traveling westbound on State Street.

Berke was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva where she later died.

The driver was not injured and has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. She has been issued a traffic citation at this time for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Further charges will be determined based on the results of the investigation.
