Northwestern Medicine Field will be raising the woof in support of animals over the next two weekends. (OK, it doesn’t have a roof, but we needed the pun.)

South Elgin-based Anderson Humane Society will hold the seventh annual Pet-AH-Palooza on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Northwestern Medicine Field, 34W002 Cherry Lane in Geneva.

The event will include adoptions, demonstrations, pet contests, exhibitors and an agility course.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

The Rev. Rob Hamilton and the Rev. Lisa Telomen, pastors at United Methodist Church of Geneva, will bless pets in a tent at the event.

A doggie-specific event will take place on Sunday, October 2. Along with Robust Promotions, the Kane County Cougars Baseball Foundation will present Diamonds in the Ruff, an attempt to break a world record for the largest dog wedding. The goal is to marry 1,000 dogs. This event will also raise money for K9s For Warriors.

“We are a bit quirky and always push the marketing envelope, so hosting a massive dog wedding is a natural,” Cougars owner and CEO Bob Froehlich stated in a press release. “Our foundation gives back to the community over $1 million annually in cash and in-kind donations. One of our biggest areas of focus has always been veterans and active military. In many ways, our organization was made for this event.”

Stephanie Vogt, , stated in the release that service dogs help veterans “return to a life of dignity and independence.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this awesome attempt,” said community relations manager at K9s For Warriors Stephanie Vogt. “Diamonds in the Ruff will allow us to continue changing veterans’ lives for the better and give new purpose to rescue dogs.”

Registration for dogs at Diamonds in the Ruff is $25 and ends September 26. For more information, visit https://www.largestdogwedding.com.
