The days are getting shorter, the air-crisper, and the first leaves have started to turn a vibrant crimson… it can only mean one thing – fall is here! Grab your scarf and bring the whole family to the Fall Festival at Sonny Acres Farm from September 17, 2022- October 31, 2022!
Sonny Acres Farm is a West-Chicago, family-owned and operated farm, and pumpkin patch since 1883. It originally began as a homestead that was developed by first-generation German immigrants, Ferdinand and Anna Nagel. In 2019, the farm was sold to new owners, two close knit families (Fontana and Joyaux) who have made expanding the farm’s reach to the community a priority.
The Fall Festival at Sonny Acres Farm continues to grow bigger and better every year. Today, Sonny Acres Farm serves as a place for families and communities to come together, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate the bountiful harvest of summer. It’s a special time to take in all the splendor of fall before giving way to winds of winter. The family-friendly festival offers activities such as pumpkin picking, daytime wagon rides, great food, evening haunted barn and wagon rides, and so much more. In fact, you won’t be-leaf how many activities are available for the whole family to enjoy! From pumpkin picking to riding the wacky worm roller coaster to enjoying an apple cider donut, Sonny Acres Farm has it all.
Give your neighbors a ‘pumpkin’ to talk about by picking your own plump pumpkin from Sonny Acres’ expansive pumpkin selection. Whether you’re looking for a pumpkin that is round and pert or tall and skinny, you’re sure to find it. In fact, outside of picking your pumpkin, the hardest decision you may have to make is determining if you want to carve the pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern or style it as a chic decoration for your front lawn. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
After you’ve picked your pumpkin, delight in some family-friendly rides and activities. Sonny Acres takes fun to new heights (literally) with a variety of festival attractions and rides. In addition to the roller coaster, Sonny Acres offers a variety of other carnival-themed rides including a bumblebee glider, the towering Giant Slide, Tilt-a-Whirl, Flying Swings, and many more. The Sonny Express Train takes the young and young-at-heart on a fun-filled train ride with views of the expansive and idyllic farm property.
If your kids still have energy to burn, they will love the multiple inflatable jumpers, slides, and swings where they are able to hip and hop to their heart’s content. And if an inflatable jumper isn’t enough why not introduce them to a Giant Jumping Pillow? Jumping and grooving on top of a giant pillow, count us in!
If you prefer your feet firmly on the ground, be sure to visit the self-feeding zoo (we offer a petting zoo during the Fall, check the website for dates and hours) where you can give baaa-ck to farm animals by hand feeding and petting them. There are a variety of animals including sheep, goats, lamas, ducks, and more. Or, if you want something even more hands-on, try out the cowboy lifestyle by riding one of our many friendly ponies (check website for availability).
The family-friendly haunted day wagon ride provides just enough spooks and chills to titillate even the youngest of thrill-seekers. And takes riders on an unforgettable trip throughout the farm and into many new spooky spots that will have your family shivering in fun and fear.
Feeling a bit peckish? Sonny Acres Farm Fall Festival has you covered with a wide variety of food and drink options from Our Kitchen grill. Chow down on a-maize-ing roasted corn, pizza, burgers, beefs, hot dogs, salads, and more. Just remember to save room for dessert! There are plenty of options to choose from including mouth-watering slushies, sweet funnel cakes, churros, and cotton candy.

Starting September 30th (at night), visitors that are looking to celebrate the spookier side of fall will enjoy a spooky Haunted Barn and Haunted Wagon Ride attractions. Just be warned, things definitely do go bump in the night here…and sometimes they may jump out at night too.
