The dark side of social networking became all too apparent to a an area girl who met a person online pretending to be a woman, only to find herself extorted into sharing lewd phots of herself.
The extortionist, 23-year-old male Anchit Nayyar of Carol Stream, was sentenced this week to 4 years in prison by Kane County Judge Alice C. Tracy.
Nayyar had previously pleaded guilty to the offense of child pornography, a Class 2 felony.
According to prosecutors, Nayyar first contacted the victim through the social media application Snapchat posing as a woman. He initially requested photos of the victim’s armpits. After the victim complied Nayyar blackmailed the victim by demanding she provide him with lewd photos of herself or he would publicly share previous photos she had sent him.
The victim was younger than 18 years old.
“Mr. Nayyar not only extorted this young victim/survivor, he psychologically abused her,” stated Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Wittman. “I am grateful she had the courage to talk about Mr. Nayyar’s criminal conduct to a trusted adult, who contacted the police. Her disclosure put an end to the blackmail not only of herself, but also of his other victims and potential victims. Her bravery prompted a collaborative effort in identifying him and assisted in other similar charges in DuPage County.”
In addition to the prison term, Nayyar must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Nayyar is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for 1 day served in the Kane County jail.
