A Glen Ellyn man and an Oak Park man have both been charged with Drug Induced Homicide for supplying a lethal dose of fentanyl that resulted in the death of 29-year-old Margaret McCabe of unincorporated Clarendon Hills in November 2021.
On November 5, 2021, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an unresponsive female, later identified as McCabe, in unincorporated Clarendon Hills. The call was placed by a family member.
McCabe was immediately transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. An investigation into McCabe’s death found that she died of fentanyl intoxication.
It is alleged that on that same day, McCabe traveled with the accused Glen Ellyn man, also 29 years old, to Chicago to purchase narcotics. It is alleged that the man purchased several bags of narcotics and that he gave one bag containing fentanyl to McCabe. Once at home, McCabe ingested the fentanyl, resulting in the lethal overdose. The man was taken into custody on a $25,000 bond with 10% to apply arrest warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance issued the previous day. He was charged with Drug Induced Homicide last week with a $500,000 bond with 10% to apply.
The 62-year-old Oak Park man was also charged with Drug Induced Homicide as it is alleged he was the one who supplied the fentanyl to the couple. He bond was set at $350,000 with 10% to apply.
“This senseless loss of life must stop and one way to stop it is to hold those who supply fatal doses of narcotics responsible,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin said. “A dealer, a friend or even a family member may think twice about supplying this poison knowing that they will be looking at a significant amount of time behind bars if they are the proven source of a fatal overdose. I offer my sincerest condolences to Margaret’s family and friends as they continue their lives without the love and friendship she provided them.”
