An F-150 pickup truck rammed into the back of a car at a busy intersection on Route 25 in Carpentersville Tuesday, pushing the car into traffic and causing a chain-reaction collision that left one man dead and sent four others to the hospital.

According to police, at about 6:58pm, Thursday evening, emergency responders were called to Route 25 and Helm Road in Carpentersville. A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck, a 48-year-old man from McHenry, failed to stop for a vehicle sitting at a red light at Route 25 and Helm Road. The collision pushed him into traffic, causing the chain reaction crash.

27-year-old Jamie X. McDonald of Streamwood, along with four other victims, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was later pronounced dead. The other victims remain at Advocate with injuries not considered life threatening.

The driver of the F-150 was issued two citations and the Carpentersville Police Department and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate, according to police.
