The man who was shot and killed by a Naperville Police Officer last week has now been identified by authorities.
The DuPage County Coroner identified the man as Edward C. Samaan, 28, of Naperville.
Last Friday morning, an officer was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of Bond Street and McDowell Road in Naperville when an unrelated vehicle pulled up next to the vehicle the officer had pulled over.
Samaan got out of the vehicle and charged at the officer with a hatchet in his hand. The officer pulled his gun and shot him.
Samaan was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The officer, a 22-year-veteran of the Naperville Police Department, was not injured.
